Dear Parent/Carer
Re: Examinations
I have enclosed the February mock examination timetables which begin Monday 3rd February to Friday 7th February and Monday 24th February to Monday 3rd March.
We encourage all students to revise and study for these examinations. These results will be included in the calculations of students’ grades in the unfortunate event that any future examinations do not go ahead.
Students must bring all their own equipment to sit the examinations. This should include 2 black ballpoint pens, a pencil, ruler, rubber, sharpener, protractor, set of compasses and a calculator. This equipment must be in a clear see through pencil case.
As a reminder, there are several pieces of examination information, warning, policies and notices that you and your son/daughter need be aware of, such as the Notice to Candidates, Internal Appeals Policy, Complaints Policy and Privacy Notice which are available on the academy website, the examination notice board and will shortly be on google classroom. If you do not have access to a computer and would like paper copies, please contact me.
Several courses include non-exam assessments. These are assessments which are completed in lessons and marked by the teachers before submitting the marks to the awarding bodies. The Ebbsfleet Academy will ensure that students are informed of their centre assessed marks and in enough time to request a review of the centre’s marking before marks are submitted.
Each year the awarding bodies summer examination series have “contingency” examination days. These contingency days for GCSE and/or A Level (or equivalent) examinations has been put in place “in the event of widespread, sustained national or local disruption to examinations during the examination series.”
This year, there are two contingency dates. The afternoons of the 11th June 2025 and all day on 25th June 2025. This means that all examination candidates must be available to sit examinations from the date of their first examination until this contingency day. This decision is not a school decision and does apply to all candidates in all schools.
Following results days, there is a possibility of requesting a review of markings (RoM). This is a post-result review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly. It is not a re-marking of the student’s script. A request for a RoM can only be made by the Academy and the Academy will only support this if it feels there is a good chance that the grade will improve. Following a RoM, grades can stay the same, improve or go down. The student has a right of appeal for a RoM should the Academy not support a RoM.
Yours sincerely
