In the last week of April, our Year 9 – 12 students at Ebbsfleet Academy experienced a full day of hands-on experience through dissection. Students were given a short tutorial on how to perform the dissection and then allowed to take turns in performing the dissection if they wanted to. They were able to directly observe their three-dimensional structure, texture and the medical functions between different parts. This tactile learning can make abstract concepts more concrete and memorable. Beyond the specific anatomy, this type of activity fosters the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The students also explored the Health & Safety aspect of this kind of work. It was truly an enriching experience for all those involved.
