Language Acquisition at Ebbsfleet Academy

Letters to their penpals

At Ebbsfleet Academy, we are proud to deliver a truly global education through our MYP framework, which encourages students to look beyond their local context and explore the wider world. One of the most recent examples of this in action is our thriving pen pal program, developed through our Modern Foreign Languages department.

Our students have formed meaningful connections with two secondary schools in the north-west of France—Le Collège de la Baie du Somme and Le Collège Mirabeau in Normandy. Separated by the English Channel but united by curiosity and communication, students have begun exchanging letters, sharing stories about their daily lives, their cultures and their hopes for the future.

Students are not only learning a language—they’re learning empathy, respect and how to connect across cultures. In May, Ebbsfleet Academy will be welcoming 49 students from Mirabeau College along with 4 teachers and we are hoping to visit them next year. This growing relationship marks the beginning of an incredible journey—one that reflects the heart of international-mindedness and global citizenship.
