Why this course?

Studying health & social care will give you an understanding of human growth and development and the factors that can have an impact on this.. Health and social care will give you an insight into human nature and vulnerabilities and how individuals can be supported. If you are considering a career in nursing, midwifery or social work, this course will give you a broad understanding and is designed for progression to higher education.

Course Content

  • Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development. This unit is externally assessed. It covers aspects of human growth and development.
  • Unit 2: Working in health & social care. This unit is externally assessed and will help you to understand what it is like to work in the health care sector.
  • Unit 5: Meeting individual care and support needs. This unit will be useful if you are intending to pursue a career in social care or healthcare and is internally assessed.
  • Unit 12. Supporting individuals with additional needs. This unit will help you progress to a range of careers with children and adults with additional needs and also to higher education to study nursing, social work and therapist careers. This unit is internally assessed.

How will I be assessed?

Two externally assessed units and two internally assessed units.

Student Profile

Students must be able to apply knowledge to complex situations and be able to adapt or modify their way of thinking  to meet the individual circumstances and needs. A solution focused approach to challenges is essential, as is the ability to think logically.
